The second largest occupation in India, after agriculture, is craft. This sector is highly disorganized due to various reasons, and we at Aporv feel the need to restore the confidence and uplift the age old Indian art and craft tradition. Every 7-10 years, 10% of the craftsmen leave their craft in search of better opportunities. If this trend continues, the Indian craft will be lost in a few decades from now. We decided to take tackle problem head on.
Aporv’s hybrid online model creates a sustainable socio-economic system that encourages community growth by stimulating the demand for handmade items. With this model, we are able to help these artisans grow their business and sustain, by just concentrating on the thing they do best – believe in their ‘aporv’ creation. Aporv helps them reach out to the global audience by focusing on all other aspects of market linkages as well. Our commitment to these artisans, NGOs and SHGs (Self Help Groups) is to strengthen micro-level financial systems and create sustainable solutions to urgent societal problems.
Aporv’s model is not just connecting the “Sellers” to the “Buyers” but more. We believe in a win-win situation. At the core, we connect the “Sellers” and “Appreciators”, but at the same time, we also make sure that the artisans get a fair value of the product they are creating. We follow Fair Trade practices, and our development organization participates in healthcare and education of the artisan.
Aporv is a very unique solution where we partner with artisans and designers to create products, and at the same time partner with organizations who work with these artisans. We believe in growing with our partners and making them successful. Non-Aporv branded products are sourced only from organizations that verify their use of fair labor practices, which includes maintaining social responsibility in their factories. We also partner with individuals who create unique handmade products.
Aporv does not knowingly do business with any organization not adhering to basic humanitarian practices.
